Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The process of upgrading an item, often known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stat linearly.

Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to increase the stats on your weapons and armor. This can be done through a number of means such as using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. A lot of items can be reforged in order to increase their value.

The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the item you are creating it for.
The majority of upgrade components inserted into items can't be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary upgrades and equipment. However, if you have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your gear, you can move it to another piece of equipment by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
If you want to remove a glyph from an item you must save it using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item on which the glyph is located will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be recovered by removing the glyph fragments.
